How much should you spend on a new mattress?
If you’re on a limited budget, and have no health issues to speak of, reasonably featured smooth top inner-spring queen size mattresses can be purchased for less than $500. New medical advances and technologies have led to improvements in foams, fibres and construction, which in turn has led to improved comfort and support, even in these lower priced inner-spring mattress sets. And many of today’s foams and fibres provide plush comfortable toppers, that can take the bite out of even the firmest of coils.
On the other hand, if you have health issues, a superior conforming mattress that takes pressure off pressure points, should be on your shopping list. You might want to consider foam mattresses made of memory (Viscoelastic) or latex foam, or pocket coil inner-springs with layers of memory foam, and/or latex foam, and/or fibre that wicks away moisture.
A fairly featured brand name smooth top queen size pocket coil mattress (some memory foam, or alternatively some latex, enhanced with fibre) can be purchased in Canada for less than $800.
