What should you do with your old mattress?
It all comes down to the condition of your old mattress, and you’re the only one that really knows.
If it’s comfortable, supportive, and in good condition, and you’re merely changing it for size or health issues, relegating it to a spare room, taking it to a cabin, or giving it to someone you know makes sense.
On the other hand there’s nothing nostalgic about a used mattress, so ...
If it’s no longer comfortable or supportive, it should make it’s way to the local eco-centre. The same holds true for mattresses that have not been well protected with a mattress pad. They’re most likely a breeding ground for dust mites, allergens, mould, mildew and bacteria, and should be destined for the nearest eco-centre.
